Welcome to Snark and Pepper!

My name is Kerry (with a” y” not an “i”, please!) and I’m an almost-30 freelance writer and editor living in Tampa, Florida. I’m always thinking about my next meal. I’m also a total smartass (hence the “snark”). I probably have too many pictures of myself drinking giant beers eating.

I post a mix of original and adapted recipes (it’s nearly impossible for me to follow a recipe — I always like to tweak things a bit). I also give my thoughts on all things food related, like my current food obsessions, great meals I’ve eaten out, my favorite spots in Tampa, my travel adventures, and new finds at the grocery store. I’m always taking pictures of the things I eat, so you’ll get to see a lot of that, too.

I don’t have a fancy camera and I know next to nothing about photography. If you’re looking for gorgeous pictures of food, there’s a long list in my blogroll full of brilliant photography. If you enjoy dry humor, butter, and poorly-lit pictures taken from my phone, this blog is for you.

I’d love to hear from you! You can get in touch with me here or connect with me via social media on FacebookPinterestTwitterInstagram, and Yelp.

How This Started

Starting a food blog was a pretty obvious move: I love cooking, eating, talking about food, and writing. But it took a little push to get me here…

I spent a year living in Australia with a small galley kitchen, limited cooking utensils, and super expensive groceries. It was there that I really learned how to improvise in the kitchen, since a lot of ingredients I was used to weren’t available, too expensive or slightly different than the equivalent ingredient back in the states. Upon my return to the U.S., I was more eager than ever to develop my culinary skills. I also really, really wanted some authentic Mexican food.

I lived with my parents while unemployed, spending hours in the kitchen and then writing about it. With a little word-of-mouth and plenty of shameless promotion on my part (and some help from my PR team: my family), this grew into a community of friends (both real and cyber-made).

Check out my first post for more on why this blog exists.

Hi Kerry – So glad I found your site, love it! Thanks for the tip about the lamb at Costco, I’m thinking it might turn in to our New Year’s Eve dinner. Happy holidays!

What an elegant website and loved your recipe for the tortilla soup. I also like how you have the recipes organized — you’ll find a job soon, you’re a talented young lady. Blessings, Suzanne :)
